Expert Experience

Updated: Jul 16, 2019

When people look at you what do they think of you? Do they think of you as a specialist? Or someone mediocre?

Everyone wants to be known as excellent; and a sure way to be excellent is to be excellent. Bruce Lee said, “The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus.”

So how do you become excellent?

Focus.

What do you want to be? What do you want people to know you for? I’m not saying you can’t do other things, but everybody knows the singer who hits the right notes because they've been practicing it for years.

That's who you want to be. You want to be someone who knows what they are doing.

So what do you need in order to succeed and specialize?

First one was focus. Second is consistency. You need to be able to perfect and master your skills through constant practice and consistency. Not only is consistency good at getting you to perfect your skill sets, but it also hones in the ability to accomplish a large goal in a series of steps.

Now remember, you're specializing. This means that time after time you will have a point that you might need to work with someone else to get a task done.

Over time you'll be able to accomplish more with your skill sets and with another specialist beside you.

Ever heard of the assembly line?

Because of the assembly line, efficiency spiked high up which brought production of goods to the masses. When one person focused on their job, they were able to do more together than if they did all jobs themselves.

So what else do you need to be excellent?

Motivation. Passion.

Some of the greatest people grew out of the passion and motivation they have. Have a desire. Have a thirst to never stop growing. Most people who stop specializing are those who are burned out with no desire.

Do something that makes you inspired. Do something that you are passionate about. The best were always the passionate ones.

For example, a martial artist may be a master at their skill, but have no passion. Compared to a martial artist that is passionate, their skill show attitude and a personality. It's like music. The passionate one enjoys what he is doing and it shows in their face or attitude.

Not only that, but the passionate ones are usually learning faster than those who have no desire to learn.

So have passion. Have focus. Be consistent.

Before you know it, you will excel.
